गता विचेतुम् पुष्पाणि फलानि अपि च वा पुनः ।
अथवा पद्मिनीम् याता जल अर्थम् वा नदीम् गता ॥ ॥३-६०-९॥
Gatā vicetum puṣpāṇi phalāni api ca vā punaḥ |
Athavā padminīm yātā jala artham vā nadīm gatā ॥3-60-9॥
Translation
Has she gone to pick flowers or fruits? Or has she gone to the lotus pond, or to the river to fetch water?

English Commentary
Continuing the stream of consciousness from the previous verse, Rama tries to rationalize Sita's absence with mundane explanations. He wonders if she has gone for her daily chores: picking flowers, gathering fruits, visiting the lotus pond, or fetching water from the river ('jala artham'). This is a psychological defense mechanism; by focusing on routine activities, Rama temporarily shields himself from the horrific reality of the scattered mats and the demon's plot. It portrays the innocent habits of their forest life, contrasting sharply with the violence that has just occurred. It is a desperate plea for normalcy in a moment of absolute crisis.
