Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विचित्य सर्वतः शैलम् रामो लक्ष्मणम् अब्रवीत् ।
न इह पश्यामि सौमित्रे वैदेहीम् पर्वते शुभाम् ॥ ॥३-६१-२२॥
Vicitya sarvataḥ śailam rāmo lakṣmaṇam abravīt |
Na iha paśyāmi saumitre vaidehīm parvate śubhām ॥3-61-22॥
Translation
Having searched the mountain everywhere, Rama said to Lakshmana: "O Sumitra's son, I do not see the auspicious Vaidehi here on this mountain."
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस पर्वत को सब ओर से खोजकर राम ने लक्ष्मण से कहा—"हे सौमित्र! मैं उस शुभ लक्षणा वैदेही को इस पर्वत पर नहीं देख रहा हूँ।"
English Commentary
After the physical exhaustion of the search, Rama vocalizes his despair. Addressing Lakshmana as Saumitri (son of Sumitra) indicates a reliance on his brother for emotional support. Rama uses the epithets Shubhām (auspicious/beautiful) and Vaidehi (daughter of Videha) for Sita, contrasting her noble birth and delicate nature with the rugged, empty mountain. The phrase na iha paśyāmi (I do not see her here) is not just an observation of fact but an admission of defeat in this specific endeavor, marking the transition from active searching to grieving.

शारीरिक श्रम के बाद अब राम अपनी हताशा को शब्दों में व्यक्त करते हैं। 'विचित्य सर्वतः' (सब ओर खोजकर) कहने के बाद उनका लक्ष्मण को 'सौमित्र' कहकर संबोधित करना आत्मीयता और सहारे की खोज को दर्शाता है। राम सीता के लिए 'शुभाम्' (कल्याणकारी/सुंदर) और 'वैदेही' (विदेह राज की पुत्री) विशेषणों का प्रयोग करते हैं, जो यह स्मरण कराते हैं कि वह राजपुत्री वन के कष्टों के योग्य नहीं थी। 'न इह पश्यामि' (मैं यहाँ नहीं देख रहा हूँ) केवल दृष्टि की बात नहीं है, बल्कि यह आशा के टूटने की स्वीकारोक्ति है।
