ततो दुःख अभिसंतप्तो लक्ष्मणो वाक्यम् अब्रवीत् ।
विचरन् दण्डक अरण्यम् भ्रातरम् दीप्त तेजसम् ॥ ॥३-६१-२३॥
Tato duḥkha abhisantapto lakṣmaṇo vākyam abravīt |
Vicaran daṇḍaka araṇyam bhrātaram dīpta tejasam ॥3-61-23॥
Translation
Then, scorched by sorrow, wandering the Dandaka forest, Lakshmana spoke to his brother of radiant luster.
हिंदी अनुवाद
तब दुःख से संतप्त होकर, दण्डक वन में विचरण करते हुए लक्ष्मण ने अपने तेजस्वी भाई (राम) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse shifts focus to Lakshmana. Although he himself is duḥkha abhisantapta (scorched by sorrow), his primary role remains the supporter of Rama. Rama is described as dīpta tejasam (one of radiant energy/luster). This juxtaposition is significant: physically and spiritually Rama possesses immense power, yet emotionally he is vulnerable. Lakshmana's intent is to address that latent power. The setting of the Dandaka forest amplifies the isolation, emphasizing that amidst the wilderness, the bond between the brothers is the only source of strength.

यहाँ लक्ष्मण की मनःस्थिति का वर्णन है। यद्यपि वे स्वयं 'दुःख अभिसंतप्त' (दुःख से जल रहे) हैं, फिर भी उनका कर्तव्य राम को संभालना है। राम को 'दीप्त तेजसम्' (देदीप्यमान तेज वाले) कहा गया है। यह विरोधाभास महत्वपूर्ण है—राम का बाहरी तेज अभी भी सूर्य के समान है, लेकिन आंतरिक रूप से वे विरह से ग्रसित हैं। लक्ष्मण का प्रयास उस तेज को पुनः जागृत करना है जो शोक के बादलों से ढक गया है। दण्डक वन की पृष्ठभूमि इस संवाद को और अधिक गंभीर बनाती है, जहाँ केवल ये दो भाई एक-दूसरे का सहारा हैं।
