Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पर लोके महाराजो नूनम् द्रक्ष्यति मे पिता ।
कथम् प्रतिज्ञाम् संश्रुत्य मया त्वम् अभियोजितः ॥३-६१-७॥
Para loke mahārājo nūnam drakṣyati me pitā |
Katham pratijñām saṃśrutya mayā tvam abhiyojitah ॥3-61-7॥
Translation
"In the other world, the King, my father, will surely see me. [He will ask,] 'How, having given your promise, are you [here]?' Thus, I will be indicted by him [for breaking my word]."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"परलोक में मेरे पिता महाराज (दशरथ) मुझे अवश्य देखेंगे। (वे मुझसे पूछेंगे) 'प्रतिज्ञा करके भी (वनवास पूरा किए बिना) तुम (मेरे पास) कैसे चले आए?' - इस प्रकार मैं उनके द्वारा दोषी ठहराया जाऊंगा।"
English Commentary
Even in the depths of despair, Rama’s conscience remains bound to Dharma and Satya (truth). He fears that if he dies of grief now, he will face his father, Dasharatha, in the afterlife (para loke) as a failure. Not just for losing Sita, but for breaking the vow (pratijnam) of completing the 14-year exile. He imagines his father accusing him (abhiyojitah) of escaping his duty through death. This highlights that for Rama, moral integrity is heavier than life itself.
हिंदी टीका
राम को मृत्यु का भय नहीं है, अपितु 'धर्म' और 'सत्य' के खंडित होने का भय है। यदि वे सीता के वियोग में अभी प्राण त्याग देते हैं, तो १४ वर्ष के वनवास की प्रतिज्ञा अधूरी रह जाएगी। उन्हें लगता है कि परलोक में पिता दशरथ उन्हें दोषी मानेंगे ('अभियोजितः') कि उन्होंने रघुकुल की रीत (वचन पालन) तोड़ दी। राम के चरित्र की यह महानता है कि चरम शोक में भी उन्हें अपने कर्तव्य और वचन की चिंता सता रही है।
