Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स्वर्गो अपि हि तया हीनः शून्य एव मतो मम ।
तत् माम् उत्सृज्य हि वने गच्छ अयोध्या पुरीम् शुभाम् ॥ ॥३-६२-१५॥
Svargo api hi tayā hīnaḥ śūnya eva mato mama |
Tat mām utsṛjya hi vane gaccha ayodhyā purīm śubhām ॥3-62-15॥
Translation
"Even heaven without her is deemed empty by me. Therefore, leave me here in the forest and go to the auspicious city of Ayodhya."

"उसके (सीता के) बिना तो मुझे स्वर्ग भी शून्य ही लगता है। इसलिए तुम मुझे वन में ही छोड़कर शुभ अयोध्या पुरी को चले जाओ।"
English Commentary
Rama commands Lakshmana to abandon him. The statement "Even heaven without her is empty" (Svargo api hi tayā hīnaḥ śūnya) is a definitive declaration that Sita is the locus of his happiness; spiritual liberation or celestial pleasures mean nothing without her. Urging Lakshmana to return to the Shubhām (auspicious) Ayodhya while he remains in the forest indicates suicidal ideation. Rama sees himself as damaged goods, unfit for the auspicious city, effectively resigning from his life.

राम लक्ष्मण को आदेश देते हैं कि वे उन्हें अकेला छोड़कर लौट जाएं। 'स्वर्गो अपि हि तया हीनः शून्य'—यह पंक्ति राम के प्रेम की गहराई को परिभाषित करती है; सीता के बिना मोक्ष या स्वर्ग का भी उनके लिए कोई अर्थ नहीं है। वे लक्ष्मण को 'शुभाम्' (कल्याणकारी) अयोध्या जाने को कहते हैं, जबकि स्वयं 'अशुभ' वन में अपने प्राण त्यागना चाहते हैं। यह राम के चरित्र का वह पक्ष है जहाँ प्रेमी का रूप, क्षत्रिय और राजा के रूप पर हावी हो गया है।
