पश्यन् इव च ताम् सीताम् अपश्यन् मदन अर्दितः ।
उवाच राघवो वाक्यम् विलाप आश्रय दुर्वचम् ॥ ॥३-६२-२॥
Paśyan iva ca tām sītām apaśyan madana arditaḥ |
Uvāca rāghavo vākyam vilāpa āśraya durvacam ॥3-62-2॥
Translation
Tormented by love (Madana), Raghava, though not actually seeing Sita, spoke words laden with lamentation that were difficult to utter, as if he were seeing her right there.

कामदेव से पीड़ित राम, सीता को न देखते हुए भी मानो उन्हें (अपने समक्ष) देखते हुए से, विलाप युक्त ऐसे वचन बोले जो कहने में अत्यंत कठिन (दुःखदायी) थे।
English Commentary
This verse depicts the state of Unmada (delirium/madness), a specific stage in Vipralambha Shringara (love in separation). The phrase paśyan iva (as if seeing) suggests hallucinations born of intense trauma. Being Madana arditaḥ (tormented by the god of love), Rama projects Sita's image onto his surroundings. He speaks words described as durvacam—difficult to utter or articulate, possibly because they stem from a broken mind or because they display a vulnerability that contradicts his warrior nature.

यह श्लोक 'उन्माद' अवस्था का वर्णन करता है, जो विप्रलम्भ शृंगार (वियोग) की एक दशा है। 'पश्यन् इव' (मानो देख रहे हों) यह बताता है कि राम को मतिभ्रम (hallucination) हो रहा है। प्रेम की तीव्रता (मदन अर्दितः) के कारण उन्हें प्रकृति के हर कण में सीता का आभास हो रहा है। वे ऐसे वचन बोलते हैं जो 'दुर्वचम्' हैं—अर्थात जिन्हें बोलना एक धीर-वीर पुरुष के लिए अत्यंत कठिन और शोभा न देने वाला है, किंतु प्रेम की अधिकता उन्हें विवश कर रही है। वे अदृश्य सीता से वार्तालाप प्रारंभ करते हैं।
