कदली काण्ड सदृशौ कदल्या संवृता उभौ ।
ऊरू पश्यामि ते देवि न असि शक्ता निगूहितुम् ॥ ॥३-६२-४॥
Kadalī kāṇḍa sadṛśau kadalyā saṃvṛtā ubhau |
Ūrū paśyāmi te devi na asi śaktā nigūhitum ॥3-62-4॥
Translation
"O Devi! I see your thighs, which resemble the stems of plantain trees, hidden by the plantain grove. You are unable to conceal them."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे देवि! तुम्हारे दोनों जाँघें केले के तने (कदली स्तम्भ) के समान हैं, और तुमने उन्हें केले के वृक्षों से ढक रखा है। (किंतु) मैं उन्हें देख रहा हूँ, तुम उन्हें छिपाने में समर्थ नहीं हो।"
English Commentary
Rama's delusion intensifies. In classical Sanskrit poetics, a woman's thighs are often compared to the smooth stems of the banana/plantain tree (Kadalī). Seeing the trees, Rama conflates the metaphor with reality, believing the trees are actually Sita's thighs which she is trying to hide. His assertion "I see you" (paśyāmi te) underscores his break from reality. He has lost the ability to distinguish between the inanimate object of comparison (the tree) and the subject (Sita).

यहाँ राम का भ्रम और गहरा हो जाता है। संस्कृत साहित्य में स्त्रियों की जाँघों की उपमा अक्सर केले के चिकने तने (कदली काण्ड) से दी जाती है। राम केले के वृक्षों को देखकर भ्रमित हो जाते हैं कि वे सीता की जाँघें हैं। वे कहते हैं, "मैं तुम्हें देख रहा हूँ" ('पश्यामि ते'), जो उनकी मानसिक अस्थिरता को दर्शाता है। वे जड़ (वृक्ष) और चेतन (सीता) में भेद करने में असमर्थ हो गए हैं। यह प्रेम की तन्मयता है जहाँ प्रेमी को सर्वत्र प्रेमिका ही दिखाई देती है।
