Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
विशेषेण आश्रमस्थाने हासो अयम् न प्रशस्यते ।
अवगच्छामि ते शीलम् परिहास प्रियम् प्रिये ॥ ॥३-६२-६॥
Viśeṣeṇa āśramasthāne hāso ayam na praśasyate |
Avagacchāmi te śīlam parihāsa priyam priye ॥3-62-6॥
Translation
"Especially in a hermitage, such joking is not praised. Although, O Beloved, I know your nature is fond of jest."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"विशेष रूप से आश्रम (तपोवन) में ऐसा हँसी-मजाक प्रशंसनीय नहीं माना जाता। हे प्रिये! यद्यपि मैं जानता हूँ कि तुम्हारा स्वभाव परिहास-प्रिय (मजाक पसंद करने वाला) है।"
English Commentary
Rama attempts to reason with the hallucinated Sita using the logic of propriety. As a upholder of Dharma, he reminds her that excessive mirth is ill-suited for a hermitage (āśramasthāne). Simultaneously, he acknowledges her personality (śīlam) as being fond of humor (parihāsa priyam). This serves as a rationalization for his delusion—he convinces himself she is hiding because it is in her nature to be playful, desperately avoiding the terrifying truth of her abduction.

राम अब सीता को समझाने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं। वे 'मर्यादा पुरुषोत्तम' के रूप में आश्रम के नियमों की दुहाई देते हैं कि तपोवन में चंचलता उचित नहीं है। साथ ही, वे सीता के स्वभाव को याद करते हैं ('परिहास प्रियम्')। यह स्मृति कि सीता को मजाक पसंद था, राम के भ्रम को और पुष्ट करती है। वे अपने मन को सांत्वना दे रहे हैं कि सीता का न मिलना केवल एक खेल है, कोई अनहोनी नहीं। यह वास्तविकता से भागने का अंतिम प्रयास है।
