न हि सा विलपंतम् माम् उपसम्प्रैति लक्ष्मण ।
एतानि मृग यूधानि स अश्रु नेत्राणि लक्ष्मण ॥ ॥३-६२-८॥
Na hi sā vilapantam mām upasampraiti lakṣmaṇa |
Etāni mṛga yūdhāni sa aśru netrāṇi lakṣmaṇa ॥3-62-8॥
Translation
"O Lakshmana! She does not come to me even though I am lamenting. O Lakshmana! Look at these herds of deer, their eyes filled with tears."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे लक्ष्मण! वह मेरे विलाप करने पर भी मेरे पास नहीं आ रही है। हे लक्ष्मण! देखो, ये मृगों के झुंड भी आंसुओं से भरे नेत्रों वाले हो गए हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama turns to Lakshmana, acknowledging that his calls are unanswered. He then projects his grief onto nature, observing that the deer herds have tearful eyes (sa aśru netrāṇi). In Indian aesthetics, this reflects the sympathy of nature (Prakriti) towards the hero. Since Sita loved the deer (and was led away by one), their "tears" serve as a poetic confirmation of the tragedy. It validates Rama's dread that something terrible has befallen her.

अब राम लक्ष्मण से संवाद करते हैं। सीता के न आने पर राम का ध्यान प्रकृति की प्रतिक्रिया की ओर जाता है। वे देखते हैं कि मृग भी रो रहे हैं ('स अश्रु नेत्राणि')। संस्कृत काव्यों में प्रकृति को नायक-नायिका के सुख-दुःख में सहभागी (संवेदना) दिखाया जाता है। मृगों का रोना राम के लिए एक अपशकुन या पुष्टि है कि सीता के साथ कुछ बुरा हुआ है। सीता का मृगों से विशेष प्रेम था, इसलिए उनका शोक राम को सांत्वना भी देता है और उनकी आशंका को भी बढ़ाता है।
