ताम् हार पाशस्य सदा उचित अंतम् ग्रीवाम् प्रियाया मम सु व्रताया ।
रक्षांसि नूनम् परिपीतवन्ति शून्ये हि भित्वा रुधिर अशनानि ॥ ॥३-६३-१०॥
Tām hāra pāśasya sadā ucita antam grīvām priyāyā mama su vratāyā । rakṣāmsi nūnam paripītavanti śūnyē hi bhitvā rudhira aśanāni ॥ ॥3-63-10॥
Translation
That neck of my beloved and virtuous wife, which was always worthy of pearl necklaces; surely, in this desolate forest, the blood-drinking Rakshasas have torn it open and drunk from it.
हिंदी अनुवाद
मेरी पतिव्रता प्रिया की वह सुकोमल ग्रीवा (गर्दन), जो सदा मोतियों के हार पहनने के योग्य थी, निश्चय ही उस सूने वन में रक्त-भक्षी राक्षसों ने उसे काट डाला होगा और उसका रक्त पी लिया होगा।
English Commentary
In this verse, Rama's anxiety spirals into gruesome paranoia. He no longer suspects just abduction but fears cannibalism. He visualizes the Rakshasas as rudhira ashanani (blood-eaters). The contrast is striking: Sita's neck, described as worthy of delicate pearl necklaces (hara pashasya), is imagined being torn open (bhitva) by demons in the desolate forest (shunye). The juxtaposition of jewelry/adornment with slaughter/blood-drinking highlights the collapse of civilization and safety in the forest. Rama refers to her as su-vrataya (one of noble vows), emphasizing that her virtue did not protect her from this savage fate. This reflects the darkest depths of Rama's imagination, where he fears he has failed to protect her from the ultimate physical harm.

इस श्लोक में राम का भय अपने चरम पर पहुँच गया है। अब वे केवल अपहरण ही नहीं, बल्कि सीता की मृत्यु और भक्षण की आशंका कर रहे हैं। राम का मन अनिष्ट की शंका से इतना ग्रसित है कि वे राक्षसों को केवल अपहरणकर्ता नहीं, बल्कि नरभक्षी के रूप में देख रहे हैं। 'सुव्रताया' विशेषण सीता के पातिव्रत्य और पवित्रता को दर्शाता है, जबकि राक्षसों को 'रुधिर अशनानि' (खून पीने वाले) कहा गया है। राम कल्पना करते हैं कि जिस गर्दन में सुंदर हार शोभा देते थे, वहां अब राक्षसों के दांत गड़े होंगे। यह विचार इतना भयानक है कि राम के धैर्य को पूरी तरह तोड़ देता है। यह अतिशयोक्ति नहीं, बल्कि एक प्रेमी हृदय का घोर निराशा में उपजा हुआ दुःस्वप्न है।
