Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
शोकम् विमुंच आर्य धृतिम् भजस्व सह उत्साहता च अस्तु विमार्गणे अस्याः ।
उत्साहवन्तो हि नरा न लोके सीदन्ति कर्मसु अति दुष्करेषु ॥ ॥३-६३-१९॥
Śōkam vimuñca ārya dhṛtim bhajasva saha utsāhatā ca astu vimārgaṇē asyāḥ । utsāhavantō hi narā na lōkē sīdanti karmasu ati duṣkarēṣu ॥ ॥3-63-19॥
Translation
O Noble One! Abandon this grief and embrace firmness. Let there be enthusiasm in searching for her. For in this world, men possessed of enthusiasm (energy/effort) do not perish or fail even in the most difficult of tasks.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे आर्य! शोक को छोड़िये और धैर्य धारण कीजिये। सीता की खोज में उत्साह (प्रयत्न/उद्यम) का सहारा लीजिये। क्योंकि संसार में उत्साही (उद्यमी) मनुष्य अत्यंत कठिन कार्यों में भी कभी असफल (दुखी/हताश) नहीं होते।
English Commentary
This is one of the most powerful aphorisms in the Valmiki Ramayana, extolling the virtue of Utsaha (enthusiasm, energetic effort, or industriousness). Lakshmana advises Rama to abandon paralyzing grief and adopt a proactive stance. He argues that sorrow leads to stagnation, whereas Utsaha is the fuel for success. The statement 'Energetic men do not fail even in extremely difficult tasks' serves as a timeless psychological truth. It marks a pivotal moment where the younger brother becomes the philosophical guide, reminding the Avatar of the necessity of resilience and action over passive suffering. It shifts the narrative from lamentation to the beginning of the great search (Vimargana).

यह रामायण के सबसे प्रेरणादायक श्लोकों में से एक है। लक्ष्मण 'उत्साह' (Energy/Effort) के सिद्धांत का प्रतिपादन करते हैं। वे राम को समझाते हैं कि केवल विलाप करने से सीता वापस नहीं मिलेंगी। 'शोक' मनुष्य की शक्ति को क्षीण करता है, जबकि 'धृति' (धैर्य) और 'उत्साह' उसे कठिन कार्यों के लिए तैयार करते हैं। लक्ष्मण कहते हैं कि 'अति दुष्कर' (अत्यंत कठिन) कार्य भी उत्साह से सिद्ध हो जाते हैं। यहाँ लक्ष्मण गीता के कर्मयोग जैसा उपदेश दे रहे हैं—परिणाम की चिंता या अतीत का शोक छोड़कर, वर्तमान कर्तव्य (खोज) में पूरी शक्ति लगाना ही धर्म है। यह श्लोक विपत्ति में फंसे हर मनुष्य के लिए एक महामंत्र है।
