न मत् विधो दुष्कृत कर्म कारी मन्ये द्वितीयो अस्ति वसुंधरायाम् ।
शोक अनुशोको हि परंपराया माम् एति भिन्दन् हृदयम् मनः च ॥ ॥३-६३-३॥
Na mat vidho duṣkṛta karma kārī manye dvitīyo asti vasundharāyām |
Śoka anuśoko hi paramparāyā mām eti bhindan hṛdayam manaḥ ca ॥3-63-3॥
Translation
"I think there is no second person on this earth who has done such evil deeds (in past lives) as I. For grief following grief comes to me in a succession, breaking my heart and mind."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मैं मानता हूँ कि इस पृथ्वी पर मेरे जैसा 'दुष्कृत कर्म कारी' (पाप करने वाला/दुर्भाग्यशाली) दूसरा कोई नहीं है। क्योंकि शोक के बाद शोक, एक परंपरा (श्रृंखला) के रूप में, मेरे हृदय और मन को भेदते हुए चले आ रहे हैं।"
English Commentary
Rama attempts to find a metaphysical cause for his suffering. He concludes he must be the greatest sinner (duṣkṛta karma kārī) on earth to deserve this. This reflects the Karma doctrine: inexplicable suffering is attributed to unknown past misdeeds. He notes the relentless cadence of his tragedy—Śoka anuśoko (grief following grief): exile, loss of father, and now abduction of wife. This relentless bombardment is shattering (bhindan) his mental and emotional fortitude.

राम अपने कष्टों का कारण अपने प्रारब्ध (destiny) या पूर्व जन्म के पापों को मानते हैं। वे स्वयं को 'दुष्कृत कर्म कारी' कहते हैं, जिसका अर्थ है 'जिसने बहुत पाप किए हों'। यह भारतीय कर्म सिद्धांत की झलक है—जब कारण समझ न आए, तो उसे पूर्व कर्मों का फल माना जाता है। 'शोक अनुशोको' (दुःख के पीछे दुःख)—राज्य गया, पिता मरे, वनवास मिला, और अब सीता गई। यह अनवरत प्रहार उनके धैर्य को तोड़ रहा है ('भिन्दन् हृदयम्')।
