Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
पूर्वम् मया नूनम् अभीप्सितानि पापानि कर्माणि असत्कृत् कृतानि ।
तत्र अयम् अद्य पतितो विपाको दुःखेन दुःखम् यद् अहम् विशामि ॥ ॥३-६३-४॥
Pūrvam mayā nūnam abhīpsitāni pāpāni karmāṇi asatkṛt kṛtāni |
Tatra ayam adya patito vipāko duḥkhena duḥkham yad aham viśāmi ॥3-63-4॥
Translation
"Surely, in the past, I committed sinful deeds repeatedly and willfully. The ripening (result) of those deeds has fallen upon me today, whereby I enter from one sorrow into another."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"निश्चित ही मैंने पूर्व जन्मों में बार-बार जानबूझकर (अभीप्सितानि) पाप कर्म किए हैं। उन्हीं का यह फल (विपाक) आज मुझ पर आ पड़ा है, जिससे मैं एक दुःख से दूसरे दुःख में प्रवेश कर रहा हूँ।"
English Commentary
Rama deepens his karmic self-indictment. He surmises his past sins were not accidental but abhīpsitāni (desired/willful) and frequent (asatkṛt). The word vipāko refers to the fruition or ripening of karma. Rama feels the weight of cosmic justice crushing him. By internalizing the blame, he displays a characteristic lack of bitterness towards others, even as he suffers the transition from one sorrow to the next (duḥkhena duḥkham).

राम का आत्म-विश्लेषण (introspection) गहरा होता है। वे कहते हैं कि पाप अनजाने में नहीं, बल्कि 'अभीप्सितानि' (इच्छा से/जानबूझकर) और 'असत्कृत्' (बार-बार) किए गए होंगे, तभी दण्ड इतना कठोर है। 'विपाक' कर्मफल के पकने को कहते हैं। राम को लगता है कि नियति ने उन्हें घेर लिया है। एक अवतार होते हुए भी, मानव रूप में वे कर्म के नियमों को स्वीकार करते हैं और अपनी पीड़ा का औचित्य (justification) स्वयं में ही ढूंढते हैं, दूसरों को दोष नहीं देते।
