Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तेन मार्गेण गच्छन्तो निरीक्षन्तो नराधिपम् ।
येन मार्गम् च भूमिम् च निरीक्षन्ते स्म ते मृगाः ॥ ॥३-६४-१९॥
Tēna mārgēṇa gacchantō nirīkṣantō narādhipam । yēna mārgam ca bhūmim ca nirīkṣantē sma tē mṛgāḥ ॥ ॥3-64-19॥
Translation
Proceeding along that path, they kept looking back at the Lord of Men (Rama). The deer kept gazing at the path and the earth (urging him to follow).
हिंदी अनुवाद
वे मृग उस मार्ग पर चलते हुए बार-बार नराधिप (राम) को देखते थे। वे उस मार्ग और भूमि को भी देखते जा रहे थे (मानो राम को बुला रहे हों)।
English Commentary
The deer go beyond merely pointing; they actively lead. They walk the path (margena gachchanto) and look back at Rama (nirikshanto), a universal gesture of "follow me." They also inspect the ground (bhumim), possibly hinting at footprints or dropped items (which Rama will soon find). This verse cements the bond between Rama and the dharma-abiding creatures of the forest. They are physically escorting the King towards his destiny.

संकेत देने के बाद, मृग अब मार्गदर्शक (Guide) बन गए हैं। वे दक्षिण दिशा की ओर चलने लगे और बार-बार पीछे मुड़कर राम को देख रहे थे, जैसे कह रहे हों—"हमारे पीछे आओ।" वे 'भूमि' को भी देख रहे थे, शायद यह संकेत करने के लिए कि सीता के आभूषण या कुछ निशान वहाँ गिरे हो सकते हैं। यह दृश्य बहुत ही चित्रात्मक है। राम, जो अयोध्या के राजा हैं, अब वन के पशुओं के पीछे-पीछे चलने को विवश हैं। मृगों का यह व्यवहार उनकी संवेदना और बुद्धिमत्ता को दर्शाता है।
