उवाच लक्ष्मणो धीमान् ज्येष्ठम् भ्रातरम् आर्तवत् ।
क्व सीत इति त्वया पृष्टा यथा इमे सहसा उथिताः ॥ ॥३-६४-२१॥
uvāca lakṣmaṇo dhīmān jyeṣṭham bhrātaram ārtavat । kva sīta iti tvayā pṛṣṭā yathā ime sahasā uthitāḥ ॥ ॥3-64-21॥
Translation
The wise Lakshmana spoke to his distressed elder brother: "When you asked, 'Where is Sita?', these deer suddenly rose up."

बुद्धिमान लक्ष्मण ने दुखी हुए अपने बड़े भाई (राम) से कहा— "जब आपने इन मृगों से पूछा कि 'सीता कहाँ है?', तो ये अचानक उठ खड़े हुए।"
English Commentary
The epithet 'dhiman' (wise/intelligent) for Lakshmana is crucial here. While Rama is consumed by grief ('artavat'), Lakshmana retains his presence of mind to interpret the subtle signs of nature. The sudden rising of the deer is not coincidental but a response to Rama's query. Lakshmana acts as the grounding force, translating the mute language of the wild animals into a coherent direction for his distraught brother. This highlights the dynamic between the brothers: one represents the raw emotion of love lost, and the other represents the pragmatic action required to retrieve it.

यहाँ लक्ष्मण की 'धीमान्' (बुद्धिमान) उपाधि अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण है। जहाँ श्रीराम विरह और शोक में व्याकुल हैं, वहीं लक्ष्मण प्रकृति के संकेतों (शकुन) को समझने का प्रयास कर रहे हैं। मृगों का अचानक उठना कोई साधारण क्रिया नहीं थी, बल्कि एक उत्तर था। लक्ष्मण का ध्यान इस बात पर है कि प्रकृति मूक होकर भी संवाद कर रही है। वे अपने बड़े भाई की व्यथा को कम करने के लिए तर्क और प्रमाण का सहारा ले रहे हैं, यह दर्शाता है कि संकट के समय एक सहायक को कितना सतर्क रहना चाहिए।
