दर्शयन्ति क्षितिम् चैव दक्षिणाम् च दिशम् मृगाः ।
सधु गच्छावहे देव दिशम् एताम् च नैर्ऋतीम् ॥ ॥३-६४-२२॥
darśayanti kṣitim caiva dakṣiṇām ca diśam mṛgāḥ । sadhu gacchāvahe deva diśam etām ca nairṛtīm ॥ ॥3-64-22॥
Translation
"The deer are indicating the earth and the southern direction. O Lord, let us both proceed correctly in this south-westerly direction."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"ये मृग पृथ्वी और दक्षिण दिशा की ओर संकेत कर रहे हैं। हे देव! हम दोनों को इसी दक्षिण-नैऋत्य दिशा की ओर चलना चाहिए।"
English Commentary
The deer pointing South is a pivotal plot point, guiding the princes toward Lanka. The mention of the 'Nairritim' (South-West) direction is symbolic; in Vastu and Hindu cosmology, this direction is associated with Rakshasas and decay, foreshadowing the nature of the enemy they will face. Lakshmana's address of Rama as 'Deva' signifies reverence even amidst chaos. The animals, unable to speak human language, use body language to guide the Avatar, reinforcing the Ramayana's theme that Dharma and nature are allies in the fight against Adharma.

मृगों द्वारा दक्षिण दिशा का संकेत देना भविष्य की घटनाओं का पूर्वाभास है, क्योंकि लंका दक्षिण में है और रावण वहीं गया है। 'नैर्ऋतीम्' (दक्षिण-पश्चिम) दिशा का उल्लेख अशुभ और राक्षसों के स्थान से भी जुड़ा है, जो सीता के अपहरणकर्ता की प्रकृति की ओर इशारा करता है। लक्ष्मण यहाँ 'देव' शब्द का प्रयोग करते हैं, जो श्रीराम के प्रति उनके अटूट सम्मान और नेतृत्व स्वीकारने का प्रतीक है। वे केवल अनुमान नहीं लगा रहे, बल्कि एक ठोस निर्णय ले रहे हैं कि अब खोज किस दिशा में होनी चाहिए।
