मुक्ता मणि चितम् च इदम् तपनीय विभूषितम् ।
धरण्याम् पतितम् सौम्य कस्य भग्नम् महत् धनुः ॥ ॥३-६४-४३॥
muktā maṇi citam ca idam tapanīya vibhūṣitam । dharaṇyām patitam saumya kasya bhagnam mahat dhanuḥ ॥ ॥3-64-43॥
Translation
"O gentle one, whose great broken bow is this, fallen on the earth, inlaid with pearls and gems and adorned with gold?"

"हे सौम्य! मोतियों और मणियों से जड़ा हुआ तथा सुवर्ण से विभूषित, पृथ्वी पर पड़ा हुआ यह विशाल टूटा हुआ धनुष किसका है?"
English Commentary
Rama examines the weapon. It is not a crude tribal weapon but a 'mahat dhanuh' (great bow) inlaid with pearls and gold ('tapaniya'). This implies the combatant was wealthy and powerful. Rama's address to Lakshmana as 'Saumya' (gentle one) contrasts with the violence of the broken weapon. Rama is beginning to profile his enemy: this was a battle of elites, involving celestial or royal weaponry.

राम अब युद्ध के मलबे का विश्लेषण कर रहे हैं। धनुष साधारण नहीं है—वह 'मुक्ता मणि चितम्' (मोतियों और मणियों से जड़ा) है। यह किसी उच्च कोटि के योद्धा या राजा का है। राम का प्रश्न "कस्य" (किसका) यह दर्शाता है कि वे शत्रु की पहचान करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं। जंगल के निवासी राक्षसों के पास इतना भव्य धनुष होना आश्चर्यजनक है, जो संकेत देता है कि अपहरणकर्ता कोई साधारण वन-राक्षस नहीं, बल्कि कोई ऐश्वर्यशाली राजा (रावण) है।
