Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
भीम रूपा महाकायाः कस्य वा निहता रणे ।
दीप्त पावक संकाशो द्युतिमान् समर ध्वजः ॥ ॥३-६४-४७॥
bhīma rūpā mahākāyāḥ kasya vā nihatā raṇe । dīpta pāvaka saṃkāśo dyutimān samara dhvajaḥ ॥ ॥3-64-47॥
Translation
"Whose are these terrifying, huge bodies slain in battle? And whose is this radiant war-flag, shining like blazing fire?"
हिंदी अनुवाद
"युद्ध में मारे गए ये भयानक रूप और विशाल शरीर वाले (राक्षस/पशु) किसके हैं? और यह जलती हुई अग्नि के समान चमकने वाला प्रदीप्त युद्ध-ध्वज (किसका है)?"
English Commentary
The 'samara dhvaja' (war flag) represents the pride and identity of the warrior. Comparing it to 'dipta pavaka' (blazing fire) emphasizes its terrifying grandeur. Rama observes the 'mahakayah' (colossal bodies) of the slain entities. The scene is paradoxical: the abductor was powerful enough to possess such a flag, yet someone was powerful enough to cut it down. Rama is analyzing the scale of the violence to understand the strength of both the abductor and the defender.

यहाँ 'समर ध्वजः' (युद्ध ध्वज) का उल्लेख है जो अग्नि के समान चमक रहा है। प्राचीन युद्धों में ध्वज का गिरना सेनापति की हार माना जाता था। राम देख रहे हैं कि शत्रु का ध्वज गिरा हुआ है, जिसका अर्थ है कि उसे रोका गया था या चुनौती दी गई थी। 'भीम रूपा महाकायाः' संभवतः रावण के सारथी या रक्षक हो सकते हैं। राम आश्चर्यचकित हैं कि कौन सा योद्धा सीता के लिए इतना लड़ा कि उसने ऐसे महाकाय शत्रुओं को मार गिराया।
