युक्त दण्डा हि मृदवः प्रशान्ता वसुधा अधिपाः ।
सदा त्वम् सर्व भूतानाम् शरण्यः परमा गतिः ॥ ॥३-६५-१०॥
yukta daṇḍā hi mṛdavaḥ praśāntā vasudhā adhipāḥ । sadā tvam sarva bhūtānām śaraṇyaḥ paramā gatiḥ ॥ ॥3-65-10॥
Translation
Kings of the earth are indeed just in punishment, gentle, and peaceful. You are always the refuge and the ultimate resort for all beings.
हिंदी अनुवाद
पृथ्वी के शासक (राजा) उचित दंड देने वाले, कोमल और शांत स्वभाव के होते हैं। आप तो सदा ही सभी प्राणियों के शरणदाता और परम गति (सहारा) हैं।
English Commentary
Lakshmana reminds Rama of the duties of a King. An ideal ruler administers 'Yukta Danda' (proportionate punishment). Being 'Mridu' (gentle) and 'Prashanta' (peaceful) are not signs of weakness but of a ruler's stability. Lakshmana emphasizes that Rama is 'Sharanyah' (the refuge). If the Protector turns Destroyer, where will the subjects go? This is a positive reinforcement of Rama's identity—appealing to his role as the Sustainer rather than the Destroyer.

लक्ष्मण राम को 'राजा' के कर्तव्यों की याद दिलाते हैं। एक आदर्श राजा 'युक्त दंड' (Proportionate Punishment) देने वाला होता है। 'मृदवः' (कोमल) और 'प्रशान्ता' (शांत) होना कमजोरी नहीं, बल्कि शासक की शक्ति है। लक्ष्मण कहते हैं कि आप तो 'शरण्यः' (शरण देने वाले) हैं। यदि रक्षक ही भक्षक बन जाएगा, तो प्रजा कहाँ जाएगी? यह राम के अहं (Ego/Identity) को सकारात्मक रूप से प्रभावित करने का प्रयास है—"आप भगवान हैं, संहारक नहीं।"
