वीक्षमाणम् धनुः सज्यम् निःश्वसंतम् पुनः पुनः ।
दग्धु कामम् जगत् सर्वम् युग अन्ते च यथा हरम् ॥ ॥३-६५-२॥
vīkṣamāṇam dhanuḥ sajyam niḥśvasantam punaḥ punaḥ । dagdhu kāmam jagat sarvam yuga ante ca yathā haram ॥ ॥3-65-2॥
Translation
Glancing repeatedly at his strung bow and sighing again and again, he looked like Hara (Shiva) desiring to burn the entire universe at the end of the era.

वे चढ़े हुए धनुष को बार-बार देख रहे थे और बार-बार लंबी आहें भर रहे थे। वे युगांत में जगत को भस्म करने की इच्छा वाले 'हर' (महादेव) के समान लग रहे थे।
English Commentary
'Nihshvasantam punah punah' (sighing repeatedly) captures the internal tempest within Rama—a volatile mix of rage and sorrow. He gazes at his bow as the sole instrument of justice left. Once again, he is compared to 'Hara' (Shiva). While Rama is Vishnu's avatar, when depicting ultimate destruction, Valmiki consistently invokes the imagery of Shiva, emphasizing that the power of dissolution is inherent in the Supreme Lord, regardless of the form.

'निःश्वसंतम् पुनः पुनः' (बार-बार लंबी साँसें लेना) श्रीराम के भीतर चल रहे तूफ़ान को दर्शाता है—यह क्रोध और विछोह का मिश्रण है। वे धनुष को ऐसे देख रहे हैं जैसे वह न्याय का एकमात्र साधन हो। यहाँ पुनः 'हर' (शिव) से तुलना की गई है। रामायण में राम को विष्णु और शिव दोनों के गुणों से युक्त दिखाया गया है, लेकिन जब क्रोध और संहार की बात आती है, तो वाल्मीकि बार-बार शिव के रौद्र रूप का ही स्मरण करते हैं।
