देशो निवृत्त संग्रामः सु घोरः पार्थिव आत्मज ।
एकस्य तु विमर्दो अयम् न द्वयोः वदताम् वर ॥ ॥३-६५-८॥
deśo nivṛtta saṃgrāmaḥ su ghoraḥ pārthiva ātmaja । ekasya tu vimardo ayam na dvayoḥ vadatām vara ॥ ॥3-65-8॥
Translation
O Prince, a terrible battle seems to have concluded here. O best among speakers, this appears to be the struggle (destruction caused) of one person, not of two (armies).

हे राजकुमार! यहाँ अत्यंत घोर युद्ध होकर समाप्त हुआ लगता है। हे वक्ताओं में श्रेष्ठ! (चिह्नों से लगता है कि) यह किसी एक (महारथी) का ही संघर्ष (विध्वंस) है, दो (सेनाओं) का नहीं।
English Commentary
Lakshmana's powers of observation are remarkably acute. He deduces that this was 'ekasya vimardah' (the struggle of one), meaning it wasn't a clash between two large armies. The lack of multitudinous footprints suggests a duel involving a chariot and a solitary opponent (Jatayu). This deduction is crucial to convince Rama that the entire world hasn't conspired against him. It isolates the threat to a single powerful entity rather than a universal coalition, making the 'destroy everything' approach factually unwarranted.

लक्ष्मण की अवलोकन क्षमता अद्भुत है। वे निष्कर्ष निकालते हैं कि यहाँ 'एकस्य विमर्दो' (एक का ही संघर्ष) हुआ है, अर्थात यह दो बड़ी सेनाओं का युद्ध नहीं था। जमीन पर पैरों के निशान कम हैं, केवल रथ के निशान हैं। इसका अर्थ है कि एक पक्ष रथ पर था और दूसरा शायद अकेला था (जटायु)। यह निष्कर्ष राम को यह समझाने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है कि पूरी दुनिया उनके खिलाफ नहीं है। यह किसी एक शक्तिशाली शत्रु का काम है, न कि किसी संयुक्त गठबंधन का।
