भक्षयित्वा विशालाक्षीम् आस्ते सीताम् यथा सुखम् ।
एनम् वधिष्ये दीप्त अग्रैः घोरैः बाणैः अजिह्मगैः ॥३-६७-१२॥
bhakṣayitvā viśālākṣīm āste sītām yathā sukham |
enam vadhiṣye dīpta agraiḥ ghoraiḥ bāṇaiḥ ajihmagaiḥ ॥3-67-12॥
Translation
"Having eaten the large-eyed Sita, he rests here comfortably. I shall kill him with fierce, straight-going arrows with tips blazing like fire."

"वह विशाल नेत्रों वाली सीता को खाकर, देखो कैसे सुखपूर्वक (निश्चिंत होकर) बैठा है। मैं अभी इसे अग्नि के समान तेजस्वी मुख वाले, भयंकर और सीधे जाने वाले बाणों से मार डालूँगा।"
English Commentary
Rama's misinterpretation turns into intent to kill. He interprets Jatayu's immobility (caused by fatal wounds) as 'resting comfortably' after a meal. The epithet 'vishalakshim' (large-eyed) for Sita evokes her innocence, fueling Rama's desire for retribution. He describes his arrows as 'ajihmagaih' (not crooked/going straight to the target) and 'dipta agraih' (flaming tips), signifying a decisive, lethal strike. This verse heightens the suspense—will Rama kill his ally before realizing the truth?

राम का क्रोध चरम पर है। उन्हें लगता है कि जटायु सीता को खाने के बाद तृप्त होकर आराम ('आस्ते यथा सुखम्') कर रहा है, जबकि वास्तविकता में जटायु मृत्युशैया पर हैं। राम सीता को 'विशालाक्षीम्' (बड़ी आँखों वाली) याद करते हैं, जो उनकी कोमलता और सुंदरता को याद दिलाता है, जिससे राम का क्रोध और भड़कता है। वे 'अजिह्मगैः' (सीधे जाने वाले/लक्ष्य न चूकने वाले) और 'दीप्त अग्रैः' (जलते हुए अग्रभाग वाले) बाणों से वध करने की प्रतिज्ञा करते हैं। यह एक मित्र के प्रति अज्ञानतावश की गई हिंसा की तैयारी है।
