रामः तस्य तु विज्ञाय सीता सक्ताम् प्रियाम् कथाम् ।
गृध्र राजम् परिष्वज्य परित्यज्य महत् धनुः ॥ ॥३-६७-२१॥
Rāmaḥ tasya tu vijñāya sītā saktām priyām kathām । Gṛdhra rājam pariṣvajya parityajya mahat dhanuḥ ॥ ॥3-67-21॥
Translation
Upon understanding the endearing news regarding Sita from him, Rama cast aside his mighty bow and embraced the King of Vultures.

राम उस (जटायु) से सीता-संबंधी प्रिय समाचार जानकर, अपना विशाल धनुष त्यागकर गृध्रराज से लिपट गए।
English Commentary
This verse captures a profound moment of vulnerability in Rama. Hearing the news of Sita is described as priyam (dear/welcome) only because it confirms she is alive and provides a lead, ending the agony of uncertainty. Rama casting aside his 'mighty bow' is symbolic; the warrior gives way to the grieving husband and grateful friend. Embracing the 'King of Vultures' (Gridhra Rajam) demonstrates Rama's immense compassion and lack of arrogance. He honors the dying bird with physical intimacy, treating him with the reverence due to a family elder.

यहाँ राम के चरित्र का मानवीय पक्ष (Human aspect) प्रबल रूप से दिखता है। 'सीता सक्ताम् प्रियाम् कथाम्'—यद्यपि समाचार दुखद था, पर यह 'प्रिय' इसलिए था क्योंकि इससे सीता के जीवित होने और अपहरणकर्ता का पता चला। राम ने 'महत् धनुः' (विशाल धनुष) फेंक दिया, जो एक योद्धा के लिए अत्यंत दुर्लभ क्रिया है। यह क्रिया दर्शाती है कि शोक और कृतज्ञता के आवेग में अस्त्र-शस्त्र का महत्व समाप्त हो गया। एक वनवासी पक्षी को गले लगाना (परिष्वज्य) राम की वात्सल्य और शरणागत-वत्सलता का प्रतीक है। वे जटायु को केवल पक्षी नहीं, बल्कि पिता दशरथ के समान आदरणीय मित्र मानते हैं।
