Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ब्रूहि ब्रूहि इति रामस्य ब्रुवाणस्य कृतांजलेः ।
त्यक्त्वा शरीरम् गृध्रस्य जग्मुः प्राणा विहायसम् ॥ ॥३-६८-१७॥
brūhi brūhi iti rāmasya bruvāṇasya kṛtāñjaleḥ । tyaktvā śarīram gṛdhrasya jagmuḥ prāṇā vihāyasam ॥ ॥3-68-17॥
Translation
"While Rama, with folded hands, was urging 'Speak, speak!', the life breaths left the vulture's body and went into the sky."
हिंदी अनुवाद
श्रीराम हाथ जोड़कर "बोलिए, बोलिए (और कुछ बताइए)" कह ही रहे थे कि उस गृध्रराज के प्राण शरीर छोड़कर आकाश में चले गए।
English Commentary
This verse captures a poignant moment of helplessness and reverence. Rama, the prince and avatar, stands with folded hands (kṛtāñjaleḥ), begging the dying bird to speak more. It illustrates Rama's deep respect for Jatayu as a father figure. The timing is tragic; just as Rama asks for more details, Jatayu passes away. The flight of the life-breaths into the sky symbolizes the liberation (moksha) of Jatayu’s soul, ascending to higher realms.

यह दृश्य श्रीराम की विनम्रता और व्याकुलता को दर्शाता है। त्रिलोक के स्वामी होते हुए भी राम एक पक्षी के सामने 'कृतांजलेः' (हाथ जोड़े हुए) खड़े हैं। वे रावण के बारे में और जानना चाहते थे, लेकिन विधि का विधान कुछ और था। जटayu की आत्मा का 'विहायसम्' (आकाश) में गमन करना उनकी सद्गति का प्रतीक है। यहाँ भक्त (जटayu) की महत्ता भगवान (राम) से भी अधिक प्रतीत होती है क्योंकि भगवान स्वयं उनके सामने नतमस्तक हैं।
