स निक्षिप्य शिरो भूमौ प्रसार्य चरणौ तदा ।
विक्षिप्य च शरीरम् स्वम् पपात धरणी तले ॥ ॥३-६८-१८॥
sa nikṣipya śiro bhūmau prasārya caraṇau tadā । vikṣipya ca śarīram svam papāta dharaṇī tale ॥ ॥3-68-18॥
Translation
"Having dropped his head on the ground, stretched out his feet, and relaxed his body, he fell upon the surface of the earth."

तब उन्होंने (मरते समय) अपना सिर भूमि पर टेक दिया, पैर फैला दिए और शरीर को ढीला छोड़ते हुए वे पृथ्वी के तल पर गिर पड़े।
English Commentary
Valmiki provides a realistic description of the physical moment of death. The tension leaves Jatayu’s body; the head that was held up to speak now drops, and the limbs stretch out in final relaxation. The imagery of the great bird collapsing onto the earth emphasizes the finality of the event. It serves as a grounding moment in the narrative—the mighty warrior is now just a lifeless body on the ground.

यहाँ मृत्यु की भौतिक प्रक्रिया का यथार्थवादी चित्रण है। जटayu, जो अब तक राम से बात करने के लिए सिर उठाए हुए थे, प्राण निकलते ही अचेत होकर गिर पड़े। 'प्रसार्य चरणौ' (पैर फैलाकर) और शरीर को ढीला छोड़ना जीवन के अंत और संघर्ष की समाप्ति को दर्शाता है। यह श्लोक पाठकों को सीधे मृत्यु की निस्तब्धता और शून्यता का अनुभव कराता है, जिससे करुण रस और गहरा हो जाता है।
