तम् गृध्रम् प्रेक्ष्य ताम्र अक्षम् गत असुम् अचलोपमम् ।
रामः सु बहुभिः दुह्खैः दीनः सौमित्रिम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-६८-१९॥
tam gṛdhram prekṣya tāmra akṣam gata asum acalopamam । rāmaḥ su bahubhiḥ duhkhaiḥ dīnaḥ saumitrim abravīt ॥ ॥3-68-19॥
Translation
"Seeing that vulture with copper-red eyes, lifeless, looking like a mountain, Rama, distressed with great and manifold sorrows, spoke to Soumitri (Lakshmana)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
ताँबे जैसी लाल आँखों वाले, पर्वत के समान विशाल उस निष्प्राण गिद्धराज को देखकर, बहुत से दुखों से दीन (व्याकुल) हुए राम ने सुमित्रानंदन (लक्ष्मण) से कहा।
English Commentary
The description of Jatayu as acalopamam (mountain-like) reinforces his grandeur even in death. His "copper eyes" remain open, staring into eternity. Rama is described as being struck by "manifold sorrows"—the cumulative weight of exile, his father's death, his wife's abduction, and now the loss of his last guardian in the forest. This verse humanizes Rama, showing him not as stoic, but as deeply vulnerable and dīna (distressed/wretched) in the face of such tragedy.

जटayu के मृत शरीर की तुलना 'अचलोपमम्' (पर्वत के समान) से की गई है, जो उनके विशाल शरीर और महान व्यक्तित्व दोनों का सूचक है। 'ताम्र अक्षम्' (ताम्रवर्णी आँखें) या तो उनकी प्राकृतिक आँखों का रंग है या मृत्यु के समय रक्त के दबाव का संकेत। श्रीराम यहाँ 'बहुभिः दुह्खैः' (बहुत से दुखों) से घिरे हैं—वनवास, पिता की मृत्यु, सीता का हरण, और अब पितृ-तुल्य जटayu की मृत्यु। वे मानवीय भावनाओं से ओत-प्रोत होकर लक्ष्मण से अपने मन की बात कहते हैं।
