Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्तः तु कुपितः खडगम् उद्धृत्य लक्ष्मणः ।
कर्ण नास स्तनम् तस्या निचकर्ता अरिसूदनः ॥ ॥३-६९-१७॥
Evam uktaḥ tu kupitaḥ khaḍagam uddhṛtya Lakṣmaṇāḥ । Karṇa nāsa stanam tasyā nicakarta Arisūdanaḥ ॥ ॥3-69-17॥
Translation
Being addressed thus, Lakshmana, the slayer of foes, became angry. Drawing his sword, he sliced off her ears, nose, and breast(s).
हिंदी अनुवाद
ऐसा कहे जाने पर, शत्रुओं का नाश करने वाले लक्ष्मण कुपित हो उठे। उन्होंने तलवार (खड्ग) निकाली और उस राक्षसी के कान, नाक और स्तन काट डाले।
English Commentary
The rejection is violent and absolute. Lakshmana, provoked by her physical assault and solicitation, reacts as the Arisūdanaḥ (destroyer of enemies). He draws his Khaḍagam (sword) and mutilates her. The severing of Karṇa (ears), Nāsa (nose), and Stanam (breast) is symbolic of stripping away her vanity and sexuality. While shocking to modern sensibilities, in the epic context, this disfigurement serves as the ultimate punishment for a female aggressor who violates sexual boundaries, rendering her "unattractive" and effectively neutralizing her threat without killing a female.

लक्ष्मण की प्रतिक्रिया त्वरित और उग्र है। 'कुपितः' (क्रोधित होकर) और 'अरिसूदनः' (शत्रु-नाशक) विशेषण उनके क्षत्रिय स्वभाव को दिखाते हैं। शूर्पणखा के समय केवल नाक-कान काटे गए थे, लेकिन यहाँ लक्ष्मण ने 'स्तनम्' (स्तन) भी काट दिए। यह दंड की कठोरता को बढ़ाता है। यह कृत्य यह दर्शाता है कि मातृत्व और स्त्रीत्व का सम्मान तभी तक है जब तक मर्यादा है; मर्यादा लांघने वाली राक्षसी वृत्ति का दमन लक्ष्मण ने अत्यंत क्रूरता से किया ताकि वह पुनः किसी पर कुदृष्टि न डाले।
