Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
लक्ष्मणः तु महातेजाः सत्त्ववान् शीलवान् शुचिः ।
अब्रवीत् प्रांजलिः वाक्यम् भ्रातरम् दीप्त तेजसम् ॥ ॥३-६९-२०॥
Lakṣmaṇaḥ tu mahātejāḥ sattvavān śīlavān śuciḥ । Abravīt prāñjaliḥ vākyam bhrātaram dīpta tejasam ॥ ॥3-69-20॥
Translation
The highly resplendent, courageous, virtuous, and pure-hearted Lakshmana, with folded hands, spoke these words to his brother (Rama), who was shining with radiance.

महातेजस्वी, बलवान, शीलवान और पवित्र आचरण वाले लक्ष्मण ने हाथ जोड़कर (विनीत भाव से) अपने प्रदीप्त तेजस्वी भाई (श्रीराम) से यह वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse beautifully highlights the character of Lakshmana. Even in the face of impending danger in the deep forest, he maintains absolute protocol and reverence toward his elder brother. By describing him as prāñjaliḥ (with folded hands), the text emphasizes his discipline and humility. Lakshmana is described as śuciḥ (pure) and sattvavān (courageous), indicating that his upcoming warning stems from alertness rather than fear. He acknowledges Rama's own radiance (dīpta tejasam), yet feels responsible for his safety. This juxtaposition of reverence and protective instinct defines Lakshmana's role as the ideal younger brother and guardian.

यहाँ वाल्मीकि रामायण में लक्ष्मणजी के चरित्र का सुंदर चित्रण किया गया है। आसन्न संकट के समय भी लक्ष्मणजी अपने अग्रज श्रीराम के प्रति विनय और मर्यादा नहीं छोड़ते। 'प्रांजलिः' (हाथ जोड़कर) शब्द यह दर्शाता है कि वे केवल एक छोटे भाई ही नहीं, बल्कि एक अनुशासित सेवक और शिष्य भी हैं। लक्ष्मण को 'शुचिः' (पवित्र) और 'सत्त्ववान' (साहसी) कहा गया है, जो यह स्पष्ट करता है कि उनका मन भय से नहीं, बल्कि सतर्कता से भरा है। वे श्रीराम के तेज को पहचानते हैं ('दीप्त तेजसम्'), फिर भी एक रक्षक के रूप में उन्हें सावधान करना अपना कर्तव्य समझते हैं। यह श्लोक भाइयों के बीच के आदर्श संबंध और संकट काल में भी धर्म पालन का उदाहरण है।
