Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तस्मात् सज्जी भव आर्य त्वम् कुरुष्व वचनम् हितम् ।
मम एव हि निमित्तानि सद्यः शंसन्ति संभ्रमम् ॥ ॥३-६९-२२॥
Tasmāt sajjī bhava ārya tvam kuruṣva vacanam hitam । Mama eva hi nimittāni sadyaḥ śaṃsanti saṃbhramam ॥ ॥3-69-22॥
Translation
Therefore, O Noble One, please be ready (armed) and heed my beneficial advice. For indeed, these omens foretell immediate danger and confusion specifically to me.

हे आर्य! इसलिए आप सन्नद्ध (तैयार) हो जाइये और मेरे हितकारी वचनों का पालन कीजिये। क्योंकि ये शकुन मुझे शीघ्र ही किसी बड़े खतरे या घबराहट (संभ्रम) का संकेत दे रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Lakshmana's pragmatism shines in this verse. He does not merely report the bad omens; he immediately prescribes a course of action: sajjī bhava (be ready/armed). Although he addresses Rama respectfully as Arya, he firmly requests Rama to follow his advice (kuruṣva vacanam hitam). This shift shows the protective nature of Lakshmana eclipsing the usual hierarchy. The word saṃbhramam implies sudden chaos, danger, or confusion. Interestingly, Lakshmana claims the omens are warning him (mama eva), possibly indicating his willingness to face the threat first or his heightened sensitivity to the demonic presence compared to Rama's calm demeanor.

लक्ष्मण की व्यावहारिकता यहाँ स्पष्ट होती है। वे केवल समस्या (अपशकुन) नहीं बताते, बल्कि तुरंत समाधान (सज्जी भव - तैयार हो जाओ) का आग्रह भी करते हैं। वे श्रीराम को 'आर्य' कहकर संबोधित करते हैं, जो सम्मानसूचक है, लेकिन साथ ही वे अधिकारपूर्वक कहते हैं कि 'मेरे वचनों का पालन करें'। यह रक्षक धर्म है। 'संभ्रमम्' शब्द का अर्थ यहाँ घबराहट, युद्ध की आपाधापी या भारी संकट हो सकता है। लक्ष्मण यह मानते हैं कि ये संकेत 'मम एव' (मेरे लिए ही) हैं, जो यह दिखाता है कि वे खतरे को अपने ऊपर ले रहे हैं या स्वयं को खतरे के प्रति अधिक संवेदनशील मान रहे हैं ताकि राम सुरक्षित रहें।
