Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
संवेष्टितम् इव अत्यर्थम् गहनम् मातरिश्वना ।
वनस्य तस्य शब्दो अभूत् दिवम् आपूरयन् इव ॥ ॥३-६९-२५॥
Saṃveṣṭitam iva atyartham gahanam mātariśvanā । Vanasya tasya śabdo abhūt divam āpūrayan iva ॥ ॥3-69-25॥
Translation
It seemed as if the deep forest was intensely enveloped by a storm wind; the sound arising from that forest appeared to fill the very heavens.
हिंदी अनुवाद
वह गहरा वन मानो आंधी (वायु) से पूरी तरह घिर गया हो; उस वन से उठी वह ध्वनि आकाश को भी मानो भर देने वाली थी।
English Commentary
This verse amplifies the sensory experience of the previous one. The sound is compared to the forest being enveloped by mātariśvanā (wind/storm), suggesting turbulence and chaos. The noise is so loud it seems to divam āpūrayan (fill the sky/heavens), indicating a pervasive, overwhelming presence that traps the listener. This cosmic scale of disturbance—affecting both the earth (forest) and the sky—prepares the reader for a supernatural encounter. It suggests that the creature they are about to meet is not just a physical threat, but a force of nature that disrupts the elemental balance of the environment.

कबंध के आने या चलने की ध्वनि का प्रभाव यहाँ और विस्तार से बताया गया है। 'मातरिश्वना' का अर्थ है वायु या आंधी। राक्षस का आकार और बल इतना अधिक है कि उसकी गति से तूफान जैसा प्रभाव उत्पन्न हो रहा है। 'दिवम् आपूरयन् इव' (आकाश को भरते हुए) यह दर्शाता है कि वह गर्जना या ध्वनि सर्वव्यापी थी, जिससे बचने का कोई स्थान नहीं था। यह अतिशयोक्ति नहीं, बल्कि राक्षस के विराट स्वरूप का वर्णन है। प्रकृति (वन और आकाश) भी उस आसुरी शक्ति के प्रभाव से अछूती नहीं रही। यह वर्णन भय की तीवृता (Intensity of Fear) को बढ़ाता है।
