Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
स महा बाहुः अत्यर्थम् प्रसार्य विपुलौ भुजौ ।
जग्राह सहितौ एव राघवौ पीडयन् बलात् ॥ ॥३-६९-३५॥
Sa mahā bāhuḥ atyartham prasārya vipulau bhujau । Jagrāha sahitau eva rāghavau pīḍayan balāt ॥ ॥3-69-35॥
Translation
That long-armed demon, stretching his massive arms extensively, seized both the Raghavas together forcefully, squeezing/hurting them with his strength.
हिंदी अनुवाद
उस महाबाहु (विशाल भुजाओं वाले) राक्षस ने अपनी लंबी भुजाओं को बहुत दूर तक फैलाकर, दोनों रघुकुल नन्दन (राम और लक्ष्मण) को एक साथ बलपूर्वक जकड़ लिया और उन्हें पीडित करने (दबाने) लगा।
English Commentary
The capture is immediate and overwhelming. Jagrāha sahitau eva (caught both together) underscores the scale of Kabandha; he doesn't need to fight them individually; he scoops them up like dolls. The use of balāt (forcefully) and pīḍayan (compressing/hurting) indicates the physical pressure exerted on the princes. This is a critical narrative low point: the heroes are physically immobilized, stripping them of their usual advantage of archery and agility. It sets the stage for a test of their mental resilience.
