Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
धिगंता असि वैदेहीम् अचिरेण इति मे मतिः ।
प्रति लभ्य च काकुत्स्थ पितॄ पैतामहम् महीम् ॥ ॥३-६९-४०॥
Adhigantā asi vaidehīm acireṇa iti me matiḥ । Prati labhya ca kākutstha pitṝ paitāmaham mahīm ॥ ॥3-69-40॥
Translation
"It is my belief that you will obtain Vaidehi (Sita) very soon, and O Kakutstha, you will regain the ancestral earth (kingdom) of your fathers and forefathers."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"मेरा ऐसा मत (विश्वास) है कि आप शीघ्र ही वैदेही (सीता) को प्राप्त कर लेंगे और हे काकुत्स्थ! आप अपने पिता-प्रपितामहों की पृथ्वी (राज्य) को भी पुनः प्राप्त करेंगे।"
English Commentary
Even facing death, Lakshmana’s primary concern is reinforcing Rama’s destiny. He prophesies, adhigantā asi (you will obtain/find), regarding Sita and the kingdom. By using the epithet Kākutstha, he reminds Rama of his lineage and the duties that await him. Lakshmana’s logic is clear: Rama must survive because the restoration of Dharma and the kingdom depends on him. This verse transforms Lakshmana's despair into a noble final testament of faith in his brother's success.
हिंदी टीका
मृत्यु के मुख में होते हुए भी लक्ष्मण को राम के भविष्य पर पूर्ण विश्वास है। वे राम को सांत्वना दे रहे हैं कि मेरा बलिदान व्यर्थ नहीं जाएगा। 'इति मे मतिः' (ऐसा मेरा मानना है) यह उनकी भविष्यवाणी जैसा है। वे राम को 'काकुत्स्थ' (महान राजा ककुत्स्थ के वंशज) कहकर उनके राजधर्म और गौरव की याद दिलाते हैं। लक्ष्मण चाहते हैं कि राम जीवित रहें क्योंकि राम का जीवन सीता की प्राप्ति और अयोध्या के राज्य के लिए अनिवार्य है, जबकि लक्ष्मण अपना जीवन गौण (secondary) मानते हैं।
