Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
तत्र माम् राम राज्यस्थः स्मर्तुम् अर्हसि सर्वदा ।
लक्ष्मणेन एवम् उक्तः तु रामः सौमित्रिम् अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-६९-४१॥
Tatra mām rāma rājyasthaḥ smartum arhasi sarvadā । Lakṣmaṇena evam uktaḥ tu rāmaḥ saumitrim abravīt ॥ ॥3-69-41॥
Translation
"There, when established in the kingdom, O Rama, please remember me always." Being addressed thus by Lakshmana, Rama spoke to Sumitra's son.

"हे राम! वहाँ राज्य-सिंहासन पर बैठकर आप मुझे सदैव याद रखिएगा।" लक्ष्मण के द्वारा इस प्रकार कहे जाने पर, राम ने सुमित्रानंदन (लक्ष्मण) से कहा।
English Commentary
The emotional weight of the scene peaks here. Lakshmana’s final wish is simple: remembrance. Rājyasthaḥ (when established in the kingdom) implies a future where peace is restored, and Lakshmana asks to be part of that memory. It shows his deep attachment to Rama; he cannot bear the thought of being forgotten by him. The narrative then shifts focus to Rama, who responds to Saumitrim (son of Sumitra), a patronymic often used when highlighting Lakshmana’s affection or subordination to Rama.
