Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
उवाच लक्ष्मणम् रामो मुखेन परिशुष्यता ।
कृच्छ्रात् कृच्छ्रतरम् प्राप्य दारुणम् सत्य विक्रम ॥ ॥३-६९-४७॥
Uvāca lakṣmaṇam rāmo mukhena pariśuṣyatā । Kṛcchrāt kṛcchrataram prāpya dāruṇam satya vikrama ॥ ॥3-69-47॥
Translation
Rama, with a drying mouth, spoke to Lakshmana: "O one of true valor! Having gone from one difficulty to an even greater, more terrible difficulty..."
हिंदी अनुवाद
सूखते हुए मुख से राम ने लक्ष्मण से कहा—"हे सत्यपराक्रमी लक्ष्मण! हम एक कष्ट से निकलकर दूसरे उससे भी अधिक दारुण (भयानक) कष्ट में आ फंसे हैं।"
English Commentary
This verse highlights Rama's humanity. The phrase mukhena pariśuṣyatā (with a parched/drying mouth) is a physiological symptom of acute stress and anxiety. It shows that the hero is not immune to the biological reactions of fear. Addressing Lakshmana as satya vikrama (one of true valor), Rama acknowledges the escalating nature of their trials—moving from the tragedy of losing Sita to the immediate physical horror of Kabandha (kṛcchrataram - greater difficulty).

वाल्मीकि रामायण की सुंदरता उसके यथार्थवाद में है। भगवान होते हुए भी राम 'नर-लीला' कर रहे हैं। 'मुखेन परिशुष्यता' (सूखते हुए मुँह से) यह दर्शाता है कि राम को भी शारीरिक स्तर पर भय और तनाव का अनुभव हो रहा है। वे स्थिति की गंभीरता को छिपाते नहीं हैं। 'कृच्छ्रात् कृच्छ्रतरम्' (कष्ट से और बड़े कष्ट में) यह सीता हरण के बाद की स्थिति है। पहले वनवास, फिर सीता का वियोग, और अब यह प्राणलेवा संकट—राम इसे दुखों की श्रृंखला के रूप में देखते हैं।
