Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दृष्टा तु तद् वनम् घोरम् बहु भीम मृग द्विजम् ।
नाना वृक्ष समाकीर्णम् सर्वम् गहन पादपम् ॥ ॥३-६९-९॥
Dṛṣṭā tu tad vanam ghoram bahu bhīma mṛga dvijam । Nānā vṛkṣa samākīrṇam sarvam gahana pādapam ॥ ॥3-69-9॥
Translation
They saw that the forest was terrible, filled with many terrifying beasts and birds. It was crowded with various kinds of trees and was dense with vegetation everywhere.

उन्होंने देखा कि वह वन अत्यंत भयानक (घोर) है और बहुत से भयंकर पशु-पक्षियों से भरा हुआ है। वह नाना प्रकार के वृक्षों से व्याप्त है और सब ओर सघन पेड़ खड़े हैं।
English Commentary
The landscape remains hostile. The forest is described as Ghoram (terrible) and populated by Bhīma (frightening) wildlife. The density of the flora (Gahana pādapam) creates a claustrophobic atmosphere, symbolizing the confusing and dangerous situation the brothers are in. This description serves as a narrative device to set the stage for the upcoming encounter with a demonic entity, suggesting that evil lurks in the deep shadows of this untamed wilderness.

यहाँ पुनः वन की भयावहता का चित्रण है। यद्यपि वे आश्रम के निकट हैं, परन्तु परिवेश अभी भी 'घोरम्' (डरावना) है। 'बहु भीम मृग द्विजम्'—यहाँ के पशु-पक्षी सुंदर नहीं, बल्कि भीम (भयानक) हैं। वृक्ष इतने घने ('गहन पादपम्') हैं कि सूर्य का प्रकाश भी शायद ही पहुँच पाता हो। यह वातावरण आने वाले संकट (राक्षसी अयोमुखी) की पृष्ठभूमि तैयार कर रहा है। प्रकृति यहाँ शत्रुतापूर्ण प्रतीत हो रही है, जो राम और लक्ष्मण के मानसिक तनाव को प्रतिबिंबित करती है।
