Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
प्रतीक्षमाणः त्वाम् एव न आरोहे अहम् महायशः ।
देव लोकम् इतो वीर देहम् त्यक्त्वा महीतले ॥ ॥३-७-१०॥
Pratīkṣamāṇaḥ tvām eva na ārohe aham mahāyaśaḥ । deva lokam ito vīra deham tyaktvā mahītale ॥ ॥3-7-10॥
Translation
"Waiting only for you, O glorious hero, I did not ascend to the world of gods from here, leaving this body on the earth."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"हे महायशस्वी वीर! केवल आपकी ही प्रतीक्षा करते हुए, मैं इस पृथ्वी पर अपनी देह को त्यागकर यहाँ से देवलोक नहीं गया।"
English Commentary
This verse represents the pinnacle of devotion. Sutikshna possessed the merit and power to leave his body and ascend to heaven long ago, yet he delayed his departure 'pratikshamanah tvavam eva' (waiting only for you). This illustrates that for a true devotee, the direct vision (Darshan) of the Lord is superior to liberation or heavenly pleasures. Seeing Rama was the ultimate goal of his existence. The addresses 'Mahayashah' (O glorious one) and 'Vira' (Hero) highlight Rama's fame which had reached even the reclusive sages. The sage voluntarily endured earthly existence solely to witness the divinity of Rama in person.

यह श्लोक ऋषि की भक्ति की पराकाष्ठा है। सुतीक्ष्ण के पास देह त्यागकर स्वर्ग जाने की शक्ति और पुण्य बहुत पहले से था, फिर भी उन्होंने 'प्रतीक्षमाणः त्वाम् एव' (केवल तुम्हारी प्रतीक्षा करते हुए) अपने मोक्ष या स्वर्गगमन को रोक रखा था। यह दर्शाता है कि भक्त के लिए भगवान का दर्शन मुक्ति या स्वर्ग से भी बड़ा है। राम का दर्शन ही उनके जीवन का अंतिम लक्ष्य था। 'महायशः' और 'वीर' संबोधन राम की उस महिमा को रेखांकित करते हैं जो ऋषियों के बीच भी प्रसिद्ध थी। ऋषि ने स्वेच्छा से पृथ्वी के कष्ट सहे ताकि वे राम को अपनी आँखों से देख सकें।
