स निकृत्तौ भुजौ दृष्ट्वा शोणित ओघ परिप्लुतः ।
दीनः पप्रच्छ तौ वीरौ कौ युवाम् इति दानवः ॥ ॥३-७०-११॥
Sa nikṛttau bhujau dṛṣṭvā śoṇita ogha pariplutaḥ । Dīnaḥ papraccha tau vīrau kau yuvām iti dānavaḥ ॥ ॥3-70-11॥
Translation
"Seeing his arms severed and being bathed in a flood of blood, the miserable Danava asked those two heroes: 'Who are you?'"

"अपनी कटी हुई भुजाओं को देखकर और रक्त की धारा से लथपथ होकर, उस दानव ने दीनतापूर्वक उन दोनों वीरों से पूछा— 'तुम दोनों कौन हो?'"
English Commentary
There is a complete reversal of the situation. The demon, who was 'terrifying' and a 'devourer' just moments ago, is now described as dīnaḥ (miserable/pitiful). Despite being bathed in blood, his curiosity is piqued. He realizes that these men who could sever his diamond-hard arms cannot be ordinary humans. The question "Who are you?" (kau yuvām) pivots the narrative from combat to dialogue, setting the stage for Kabandha's redemption and the revelation of his curse, which requires him to be defeated by Rama to be liberated.

स्थिति में पूर्ण परिवर्तन आ गया है। जो राक्षस कुछ क्षण पहले 'भीषण' और 'भक्षक' था, अब वह 'दीनः' (दयनीय/असहाय) हो गया है। रक्त से लथपथ होने के बावजूद, उसकी जिज्ञासा जागृत होती है। वह समझ जाता है कि जिन मनुष्यों ने उसकी वज्र समान भुजाओं को काट दिया, वे साधारण मानव नहीं हो सकते। यह प्रश्न 'कौ युवाम्' (तुम दोनों कौन हो) कहानी को एक नए मोड़ पर ले जाता है, क्योंकि यहीं से कबन्ध के शाप-मुक्ति का प्रसंग आरम्भ होता है।
