Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
इति तस्य ब्रुवाणस्य लक्ष्मणः शुभ लक्षणः ।
शशंस तस्य काकुत्स्थम् कबंधस्य महाबलः ॥ ॥३-७०-१२॥
Iti tasya bruvāṇasya lakṣmaṇaḥ śubha lakṣaṇaḥ । Śaśaṃsa tasya kākutstham kabaṃdhasya mahābalaḥ ॥ ॥3-70-12॥
Translation
"While he was speaking thus, the mighty Lakshmana, possessed of auspicious marks, told Kabandha about Kakutstha (Rama)."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"उस (राक्षस) के इस प्रकार पूछने पर, शुभ लक्षणों वाले महाबली लक्ष्मण ने उस कबन्ध को काकुत्स्थ (राम) का परिचय देना आरम्भ किया।"
English Commentary
Following proper etiquette, when a superior (Rama) is present, the junior (Lakshmana) often acts as the spokesperson. Lakshmana is described as śubha lakṣaṇaḥ (one with auspicious marks/qualities), indicating his nobility alongside his strength. He begins to introduce Kākutstham (Rama, descendant of Kakutstha). This dialogue de-escalates the tension of battle into a formal exchange. It shows the Aryan code of conduct where, once an enemy is incapacitated and asks a question, he is treated with speech rather than immediate execution.

शिष्टाचार के अनुसार, जब कोई वरिष्ठ (राम) उपस्थित होता है, तो कनिष्ठ (लक्ष्मण) अक्सर प्रवक्ता की भूमिका निभाते हैं। लक्ष्मण को 'शुभ लक्षणः' कहा गया है, जो यह दर्शाता है कि वे न केवल वीर हैं बल्कि उत्तम गुणों और शारीरिक लक्षणों से युक्त भी हैं। वे 'काकुत्स्थ' (ककुत्स्थ कुल में उत्पन्न राम) का परिचय देते हैं। यह संवाद युद्ध के तनाव को कम करता है और परिचय के औपचारिक चरण की ओर बढ़ता है। लक्ष्मण का परिचय देना यह भी दिखाता है कि शत्रु के परास्त होने पर वे उसके साथ संवाद करने में संकोच नहीं करते।
