भिषणो अयम् महाकायो राक्षसो भुज विक्रमः ।
लोकम् हि अति जितम् कृत्वा हि अवाम् हन्तुम् इह इच्छति ॥ ॥३-७०-५॥
Bhiṣaṇo ayam mahākāyo rākṣaso bhuja vikramaḥ । Lokam hi ati jitam kṛtvā hi avām hantum iha icchati ॥ ॥3-70-5॥
Translation
"This terrifying, huge-bodied demon, possessing great strength in his arms, having indeed conquered the world, wishes to kill both of us here."

"यह महाकाय (विशाल शरीर वाला) और भुजाओं के पराक्रम वाला भयानक राक्षस, जिसने समस्त लोक को जीत लिया है, निश्चय ही हम दोनों को यहाँ मारना चाहता है।"
English Commentary
Lakshmana assesses the gravity of the situation here. He describes the terrifying physical stature and the brute strength of the demon Kabandha. The term bhuja vikramaḥ (valour in arms) is significant because Kabandha's primary power lay in his incredibly long arms, which he used to entrap creatures from great distances. Lakshmana acknowledges that this is no ordinary enemy, but one who has likely terrorized the world with his strength. This statement serves to alert Rama to the magnitude of the immediate threat, emphasizing that the demon intends to kill them right then and there.

लक्ष्मण यहाँ स्थिति की गंभीरता का आकलन कर रहे हैं। वे राक्षस कबन्ध के शारीरिक बल और उसके भयभीत कर देने वाले स्वरूप का वर्णन करते हैं। 'भुज विक्रमः' शब्द का प्रयोग महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि कबन्ध का मुख्य बल उसकी लंबी भुजाओं में ही निहित था, जिनसे वह योजन भर की दूरी तक प्राणियों को पकड़ सकता था। लक्ष्मण यह स्वीकार करते हैं कि यह साधारण शत्रु नहीं है, बल्कि ऐसा कोई है जिसने संभवतः अपनी शक्ति से पूरे लोक को त्रस्त कर रखा है। यह कथन राम को सचेत करने और आसन्न संकट की भयावहता को दर्शाने के लिए है।
