एतत् संजल्पितम् श्रुत्वा तयोः क्रुद्धः तु राक्षसः ।
विदार्य आस्यम् ततो रौद्रम् तौ भक्षयितुम् आरभत् ॥ ॥३-७०-७॥
Etat saṃjalpitam śrutvā tayoḥ kruddhaḥ tu rākṣasaḥ । Vidārya āsyam tato raudram tau bhakṣayitum ārabhat ॥ ॥3-70-7॥
Translation
"Hearing this conversation of theirs, the demon became angry, and tearing open his terrible mouth, he began to eat them."

"उन दोनों की यह बातचीत सुनकर वह राक्षस क्रोधित हो गया और अपने भयानक मुख को फाड़कर, उसने उन दोनों को खाना आरम्भ किया।"
English Commentary
Hearing the conversation between Rama and Lakshmana, Kabandha realized they were not submitting, which incited his fury. The phrase vidārya āsyam (tearing open the mouth) is grotesque, considering Kabandha’s mouth was located on his stomach. This action highlights his violent and repulsive nature. He no longer intends to merely hold them captive but begins the immediate process of devouring them. This moment serves as the flashpoint for the physical conflict, as the demon's patience wears thin and he moves to consume his prey.

राम और लक्ष्मण का संवाद सुनकर कबन्ध समझ गया कि वे समर्पण नहीं कर रहे हैं, जिससे उसे क्रोध आ गया। 'विदार्य आस्यम्' (मुख फाड़कर) का वर्णन भयानक है क्योंकि कबन्ध का मुख उसके उदर (पेट) में था। यह क्रिया उसकी हिंसक और वीभत्स प्रकृति को दर्शाती है। वह अब केवल उन्हें पकड़कर नहीं रखना चाहता, बल्कि तत्काल भक्षण (खाने) की प्रक्रिया शुरू कर देता है। यह क्षण युद्ध का आरंभ बिंदु है, जहाँ राक्षस का धैर्य समाप्त हो जाता है और वह आक्रामक हो जाता है।
