पुरा राम महाबाहो महाबल पराक्रम ।
रूपम् आसीत् मम अचिंत्यम् त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतम् ॥३-७१-१॥
Purā rāma mahābāho mahābala parākrama । Rūpam āsīt mama acintyam triṣu lokeṣu viśrutam ॥ ॥3-71-1॥
Translation
"O mighty-armed Rama, possessed of great strength and valour! Formerly, I had an unimaginable form that was famous in the three worlds."

"हे महाबाहु, महाबली और पराक्रमी राम! पहले मेरा रूप अचिन्त्य (जिसकी कल्पना न की जा सके ऐसा सुंदर) था और वह तीनों लोकों में विख्यात था।"
English Commentary
Kabandha presents the stark contrast between his past and present. He addresses Rama as Mahābāho (mighty-armed)—a poignant choice of words given that Kabandha has just lost his own arms, yet he honors Rama’s strength. The phrase acintyam rūpam (unimaginable beauty/form) suggests he was a celestial being (likely a Gandharva) capable of assuming forms at will. This highlights the magnitude of his tragedy—a fall from celebrated beauty to a grotesque existence known only for terror.
