यः ताम् ज्ञास्यति तम् वक्ष्ये दग्धः स्वम् रूपम् आस्थितः ।
यो अभिजानाति तद् रक्षः तद् वक्ष्ये राम tat परम् ॥ ॥३-७१-२८॥
Yaḥ tām jñāsyati tam vakṣye dagdhaḥ svam rūpam āsthitaḥ |
Yo abhijānāti tad rakṣaḥ tad vakṣye rāma tat param ॥3-71-28॥
Translation
"However, once I am burnt and established in my own (divine) form, I shall tell you of the one who will know her. O Rama, I will surely tell you about the one who knows that demon."
हिंदी अनुवाद
"परन्तु जलाए जाने पर जब मैं अपने (दिव्य) रूप में प्रतिष्ठित हो जाऊंगा, तब मैं उस व्यक्ति का नाम बताऊंगा जो सीता को जानता होगा। हे राम! जो उस राक्षस (रावण) को जानता है, मैं उसके बारे में निश्चित रूप से बताऊंगा।"
English Commentary
Kabandha places a condition here, but it is tied to the necessity of his liberation. He states that while he doesn't know directly, he knows the person who knows Ravana. This is an ancient example of strategic networking. Kabandha cannot lead Rama to the destination, but he can point him to the guide (Sugriva). 'Dagdhaḥ svam rūpam āsthitaḥ'—only after the fire rite will his memory and divine vision return. This suggests that purification of the body (via cremation) is essential for the purification of the mind and the restoration of true knowledge.

कबंध यहाँ एक शर्त रखता है, लेकिन यह शर्त उसकी मुक्ति की अनिवार्यता से जुड़ी है। वह कहता है कि वह स्वयं नहीं जानता, पर वह 'उसे' जानता है जो रावण को जानता है। यह नेटवर्किंग का प्राचीन उदाहरण है। कबंध राम को सीधे गंतव्य तक नहीं ले जा सकता, पर वह मार्गदर्शक (सुग्रीव) तक का रास्ता दिखा सकता है। 'दग्धः स्वम् रूपम् आस्थितः'—अग्नि संस्कार के बाद ही उसकी स्मरण शक्ति और दिव्य दृष्टि वापस आएगी। यह बताता है कि शरीर की शुद्धि (दाह संस्कार) से ही आत्मा (या मन) की शुद्धि और ज्ञान की प्राप्ति संभव है।
