श्रूयताम् राम वक्ष्यामि सुग्रीवो नाम वानरः ।
भ्रात्रा निरस्तः क्रुद्धेन वालिना शक्र सूनुना ॥३-७२-११॥
Śrūyatām rāma vakṣyāmi sugrīvo nāma vānaraḥ |
Bhrātrā nirastaḥ kruddhena vālinā śakra sūnunā ॥3-72-11॥
Translation
"Listen, O Rama, I shall tell you. There is a Vanara named Sugriva, who has been banished by his angry brother Vali, the son of Indra."

English Commentary
Finally, Kabandha unveils the identity of the ally—'Sugriva.' He sketches Sugriva's background: he is banished by his angry brother Vali, the son of Indra ('Shakra sununa'). There is a subtle narrative alignment here—Rama (Avatar of Vishnu) will ally not with Indra's son (Vali) but with the Sun's son (Sugriva). Vali is powerful but defined by anger ('kruddhena'), whereas Sugriva is the victim. Kabandha hints that since Vali is the oppressor of the potential ally, he is naturally opposed to Rama's cause.

अंततः कबंध उस 'मित्र' का परिचय देता है—'सुग्रीव'। वह सुग्रीव की पृष्ठभूमि भी स्पष्ट करता है: वह 'शक्र सूनु' (इन्द्र के पुत्र) वालि द्वारा निष्कासित है। यहाँ एक सूक्ष्म विरोधाभास है—राम (विष्णु अवतार) की सहायता इन्द्र के पुत्र (वालि) से नहीं, बल्कि सूर्य के पुत्र (सुग्रीव) से होनी है। वालि शक्तिशाली है, पर वह अभिमानी और क्रोधी ('क्रुद्धेन') है, जबकि सुग्रीव पीड़ित है। कबंध यह संकेत दे रहा है कि वालि राम का शत्रु हो सकता है (मित्र का शत्रु), इसलिए सुग्रीव ही सही पक्ष है।
