लक्ष्मणः तु महा उल्काभिः ज्वलिताभिः समन्ततः ।
चिताम् आदीपयामास सा प्रजज्वाल सर्वतः ॥३-७२-२॥
Lakṣmaṇaḥ tu mahā ulkābhiḥ jvalitābhiḥ samantataḥ |
Citām ādīpayāmāsa sā prajajvāla sarvataḥ ॥3-72-2॥
Translation
Lakshmana ignited the pyre on all sides with large burning torches, and it blazed up everywhere.
हिंदी अनुवाद
लक्ष्मण ने जलती हुई बड़ी-बड़ी मशालों (उल्काओं) से उस चिता को चारों ओर से प्रज्वलित किया, जिससे वह सब ओर से धधक उठी।
English Commentary
Lighting the funeral pyre is a sacred rite, performed here by Lakshmana. The use of 'maha ulkabhih' (large torches) indicates the sheer volume of fire required to consume the massive demon body. While the visual is intense, the act is holy, signifying the destruction of the sinful physical form to release the divine soul within. It also reflects Lakshmana’s constant dedication to service, executing the necessary rituals swiftly at Rama’s behest.

अन्त्येष्टि क्रिया में अग्नि प्रज्वलित करना एक पवित्र कार्य है। यहाँ लक्ष्मण यह कार्य संपन्न कर रहे हैं। 'महा उल्काभिः' (बड़ी मशालों) का प्रयोग बताता है कि विशाल शरीर को जलाने के लिए अत्यधिक अग्नि की आवश्यकता थी। यह दृश्य भयानक होते हुए भी पवित्र है क्योंकि यह एक पापी शरीर के विनाश और एक दिव्य आत्मा की मुक्ति की प्रक्रिया है। लक्ष्मण की तत्परता और सेवा भाव यहाँ भी प्रकट होता है; वे राम के आदेश का पालन करते हुए यजमान की भूमिका निभा रहे हैं।
