Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
यावत् सूर्यः प्रतपति सहस्रांशुः अरिन्दम ।
स नदीः विपुलान् शैलान् गिरि दुर्गाणि कंदरान् ॥ ॥३-७२-२४॥
Yāvat sūryaḥ pratapati sahasrāṃśuḥ arindama । Sa nadīḥ vipulān śailān giri durgāṇi kandarān ॥ ॥3-72-24॥
Translation
O Arindama (Subduer of Enemies)! As far as the thousand-rayed Sun shines, he (Sugriva) will search all the rivers, vast mountains, mountain fortresses, and caves.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे अरिंदम (शत्रुओं का दमन करने वाले राम)! जहाँ तक सहस्रों किरणों वाले भगवान सूर्य तपते हैं (प्रकाश देते हैं), सुग्रीव वहाँ तक की समस्त नदियों, विशाल पर्वतों, गिरि-दुर्गों और कंदराओं को छान मारेंगे।
English Commentary
In this verse, Kabandha assures Rama of Sugriva’s immense capability and reach. By addressing Rama as 'Arindama' (subduer of foes), Kabandha acknowledges Rama's power but highlights that the search for Sita requires the specific logistical reach of the Vanara king. The metaphor "as far as the Sun shines" implies that Sugriva’s search will not be limited by terrain or distance; it will cover every river, mountain, and hidden cave illuminated by the sun. This establishes Sugriva not just as an ally, but as a sovereign with dominion over the wild and inaccessible regions of the earth, making him the perfect instrument for recovering Sita from an unknown location.

यहाँ कबंध भगवान राम को वानरराज सुग्रीव की व्यापक सामर्थ्य का परिचय दे रहा है। 'अरिंदम' संबोधन का प्रयोग कर वह राम को यह स्मरण दिलाता है कि वे स्वयं सक्षम हैं, किंतु सीता की खोज के लिए सुग्रीव का भौगोलिक ज्ञान और उनका वानर सेना पर नियंत्रण अनिवार्य है। कबंध यह आश्वस्त कर रहा है कि सूर्य के प्रकाश से आलोकित पृथ्वी का कोई भी कोना—चाहे वह दुर्गम गुफा हो या विशाल पर्वत—सुग्रीव की दृष्टि से ओझल नहीं रहेगा। यह श्लोक सुग्रीव की उस प्रतिज्ञा का पूर्वभास है जो वे आगे चलकर राम के समक्ष लेंगे। यहाँ सूर्य का उल्लेख केवल दिनमान के लिए नहीं, बल्कि उस सीमा के लिए किया गया है जहाँ तक जीवन और प्रकाश की पहुँच है; अर्थात सुग्रीव का अन्वेषण सर्वव्यापी होगा।
