Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
दर्शयित्वा रामाय सीतायाः प्रैमार्गने ।
वाक्यम् अन्वर्थम् अर्थज्ञः कबंधः पुनः अब्रवीत् ॥ ॥३-७३-१॥
Darśayitvā rāmāya sītāyāḥ praimārgaṇe । Vākyam anvartham arthajñaḥ kabandhaḥ punaḥ abravīt ॥ ॥3-73-1॥
Translation
Having shown Rama the way for searching Sita, the knower of meaning, Kabandha, spoke again these meaningful words.

राम को सीता की खोज का उपाय (मार्ग) दिखलाकर, अर्थ के ज्ञाता कबंध ने पुनः यह सार्थक (यथार्थ) वचन कहा।
English Commentary
This verse acts as a narrative bridge indicating a shift in Kabandha's guidance from "who" (Sugriva) to "where" (the path to Pampa). Kabandha is described as arthajñaḥ (one who knows the true import/meaning of things), lending credibility to his directions. He is not merely a monster-turned-celestial but a wise guide holding crucial knowledge. The phrase praimārgaṇe (in the context of searching for the beloved) sets the context for the following topographical description. His words are termed anvartham (meaningful/appropriate), signifying that the detailed botanical and geographical advice he is about to give is not decorative, but vital for their survival and navigation in the forest.

नया सर्ग (प्रकरण) यहाँ से प्रारंभ होता है। पिछले श्लोकों में कबंध ने 'कौन सहायता करेगा' (सुग्रीव) यह बताया था, अब वह 'किस मार्ग से जाना है' यह बताने जा रहा है। कबंध को यहाँ 'अर्थज्ञः' (प्रयोजन और नीति को जानने वाला) कहा गया है, क्योंकि वह न केवल भौगोलिक मार्ग बता रहा है, बल्कि राम के जीवन के उद्देश्य (रावण वध और धर्म स्थापना) की सिद्धि का मार्ग भी प्रशस्त कर रहा है। 'अन्वर्थम् वाक्यम्' का अर्थ है ऐसे वचन जो स्थिति के अनुकूल हों और सत्य सिद्ध होने वाले हों। यह श्लोक कथा के प्रवाह को सुग्रीव के परिचय से हटाकर अब पंपा सरोवर की ओर जाने वाले मार्ग के वर्णन की ओर मोड़ता है।
