Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एष राम शिवः पंथा यत्र एते पुष्पिता द्रुमाः ।
प्रतीचीम् दिशम् आश्रित्य प्रकाशन्ते मनो रमाः ॥ ॥३-७३-२॥
Eṣa rāma śivaḥ panthā yatra ete puṣpitā drumāḥ । Pratīcīm diśam āśritya prakāśante mano ramāḥ ॥ ॥3-73-2॥
Translation
This, O Rama, is the auspicious path, where these mind-pleasing flowering trees shine, taking refuge in (pointing towards) the western direction.
हिंदी अनुवाद
हे राम! यह (पश्चिम की ओर जाने वाला) मार्ग कल्याणकारी (शिवः) है, जहाँ ये मनोहर पुष्पित वृक्ष पश्चिम दिशा का आश्रय लेकर शोभा पा रहे हैं।
English Commentary
Kabandha points Rama towards the west (pratīcīm), designating the route as śivaḥ panthā—an auspicious or blessed path. This marks a transition from the terrifying, demon-infested forest where they encountered Viradha and Kabandha, to a region of beauty and hope leading to Kishkindha. The description of trees shining towards the west serves as a natural compass for the brothers. By calling the trees manoramāḥ (pleasing to the mind), Kabandha suggests that the environment itself will become more hospitable, offering a respite to the grieving prince as he moves closer to his goal.

कबंध राम को पश्चिम दिशा (प्रतीचीम्) की ओर जाने का निर्देश दे रहा है। वह इस मार्ग को 'शिवः पंथा' (कल्याणकारी मार्ग) कहता है। भारतीय संस्कृति में 'शिव' शब्द मंगल और शुभ का प्रतीक है। राम अभी तक विपत्तियों का सामना कर रहे थे, अतः कबंध का यह कथन कि यह मार्ग कल्याणकारी है, एक मनोवैज्ञानिक संबल है। 'मनोरमाः' (मन को रमाने वाले) वृक्षों का उल्लेख यह दर्शाता है कि दंडकारण्य का यह भाग अत्यंत सुंदर है और यह राम के शोक संतप्त मन को कुछ क्षणों के लिए शांति प्रदान करेगा। यह प्रकृति के माध्यम से राम की यात्रा को सुगम बनाने का संकेत है।
