Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
ततः तत् राम पंपायाः तीरम् आश्रित्य पश्चिमम् ।
आश्रम स्थानम् अतुलम् गुह्यम् काकुत्स्थ पश्यसि ॥ ॥३-७३-२८॥
Tataḥ tat rāma pampāyāḥ tīram āśritya paścimam । Āśrama sthānam atulam guhyam kākutstha paśyasi ॥ ॥3-73-28॥
Translation
Then, O Rama, taking refuge in (following) the western bank of Pampa, you will see a hermitage site that is incomparable and secret.

हे राम! तदनन्तर उस पंपा के पश्चिमी तट (तीरम् आश्रित्य पश्चिमम्) का आश्रय लेकर, आप एक अतुलनीय और गुप्त (गुह्यम्) आश्रम स्थान को देखेंगे।
English Commentary
Kabandha provides precise directions: the destination lies on the paścimam tīram (western bank) of Pampa. The hermitage is described as atulam (incomparable) and guhyam (secret/hidden). The secrecy is significant; it explains why Sugriva chose this region for hiding from Vali. It is a sanctuary protected not just by geography but by spiritual barriers. This description heightens the anticipation of discovering a hidden jewel within the dangerous forest—a safe haven prepared for the princes.

यहाँ आश्रम की सटीक भौगोलिक स्थिति बताई गई है—पंपा का 'पश्चिमी तट'। आश्रम को 'अतुलम्' (जिसकी तुलना न हो सके) और 'गुह्यम्' (गुप्त/रहस्यमय) कहा गया है। 'गुह्यम्' शब्द इसलिए महत्वपूर्ण है क्योंकि यह स्थान सुरक्षित है; यहाँ दुष्ट शक्तियाँ या सामान्य लोग आसानी से प्रवेश नहीं कर सकते। यह वही स्थान है जहाँ सुग्रीव और हनुमान जैसे वानर वीर भी निर्भय होकर विचरण कर सकते हैं (जैसा आगे बताया जाएगा)। कबंध राम को 'काकुत्स्थ' कहकर संबोधित करता है, जो उन्हें एक खोजी और योद्धा के रूप में प्रेरित करता है।
