स तत् कबंधः प्रतिपद्य रूपम् वृतः श्रिया भास्कर सर्व देहः ।
निदर्शयन् रामम् अवेक्ष्य ख स्थः सख्यम् कुरुष्व इति तदा अभ्युवाच ॥३-७३-४६॥
sa tat kabaṃdhaḥ pratipadya rūpam vṛtaḥ śriyā bhāskara sarva dehaḥ |
nidarśayan rāmam avekṣya kha sthaḥ sakhyam kuruṣva iti tadā abhyuvāca ॥3-73-46॥
Translation
Having regained his original form, surrounded by luster and possessing a body shining like the sun, Kabandha, standing in the sky and looking at Rama while pointing out (the path/Sugriva), said: "Make friendship (with him)."

अपना (गन्धर्व) रूप पुनः प्राप्त करके, कांति से घिरे हुए और सूर्य के समान देह वाले उस आकाश स्थित कबन्ध ने राम को (सुग्रीव का मार्ग) दिखाते हुए कहा—"आप (सुग्रीव से) मित्रता कीजिये।"
English Commentary
This final verse of Sarga 73 encapsulates the core strategic advice for the Kishkindha Kanda: "Make friendship." Kabandha, now a luminous celestial being (bhaskara sarva deha), uses his elevated vantage point in the sky not just to physically point the way, but to spiritually direct Rama toward alliance-building. The command sakhyam kurushva is pivotal; it urges Rama to seek collaboration rather than acting purely on individual prowess. By reiterating this while departing, Kabandha ensures that this instruction remains the primary focus of Rama's mind. It transitions the epic from a tale of forest exile to a grand military campaign, with the alliance with Sugriva being the foundational stone.

यह सर्ग ७३ का अंतिम श्लोक है और इसमें रामायण की आगामी दिशा का 'बीज मंत्र' छिपा है—"सख्यम् कुरुष्व" (मित्रता कीजिये)। कबन्ध जाते-जाते पुनः इस बात पर जोर देता है कि सुग्रीव से मित्रता ही सीता की प्राप्ति का एकमात्र उपाय है। आकाश में स्थित होकर मार्ग दिखाना यह संकेत है कि अब दैवीय शक्तियां राम का मार्गदर्शन कर रही हैं। 'भास्कर सर्व देहः' (सूर्य जैसी देह) और 'ख स्थः' (आकाश में स्थित) शब्द यह सिद्ध करते हैं कि राम के संपर्क से जीव पापमुक्त होकर उच्च लोकों को प्राप्त करता है। यह उपदेश राम को अपनी राजसी और क्षत्रिय मर्यादा से थोड़ा झुककर, एक वनवासी वानर से बराबरी की मित्रता करने के लिए प्रेरित करता है, जो उस काल के सामाजिक मानदंडों में एक विनम्र कदम था।
