Srimad Valmiki Ramayana
एवम् उक्ता महाभागैः तदा अहम् पुरुषर्षभ ।
मया तु विविधम् वन्यम् संचितम् पुरुषर्षभ ॥३-७४-१७॥
evam uktā mahābhāgaiḥ tadā aham puruṣarṣabha |
mayā tu vividham vanyam saṃcitam puruṣarṣabha ॥3-74-17॥
Translation
"O Bull among men! Having been told thus by those illustrious sages, I have gathered various forest produce (for you)."

"हे पुरुषर्षभ! उन महाभाग्यशाली ऋषियों द्वारा ऐसा कहे जाने पर, मैंने (तभी से आपकी प्रतीक्षा में) वन में मिलने वाले विभिन्न कंद-मूल-फल आदि एकत्र करके रखे हैं।"
English Commentary
Shabari concludes her narrative by connecting the sages' command to her current action. Vividham vanyam sanchitam means she collected various forest products (fruits, roots, tubers) suitable for offering. While popular folklore emphasizes "tasted berries," the Valmiki text emphasizes the preparedness and the variety of the offering gathered over time (or fresh daily in anticipation). The repetition of Purusharshabha reflects her awe and respect. The act of gathering food in the wild for a guest who might come "someday" requires immense hope and discipline, which defines Shabari's character.

शबरी अपनी बात पूरी करती हैं। 'मया तु विविधम् वन्यम् संचितम्' (मैंने विविध वन-सामग्री एकत्र की है) पंक्ति उनकी सेवा को दर्शाती है। यद्यपि वाल्मीकि रामायण के मूल पाठ में 'जूठे बेर' खिलाने का स्पष्ट उल्लेख नहीं है, यहाँ 'संचितम्' (इकट्ठा किया हुआ) शब्द बताता है कि उन्होंने राम के भोजन का प्रबंध पहले से कर रखा था। वह राम को 'पुरुषर्षभ' (पुरुषों में श्रेष्ठ) कहकर संबोधित करती हैं। उनका पूरा जीवन इसी 'संचयन' (तैयारी) में बीत गया कि कब राम आएंगे और कब वे उन्हें यह भेंट देंगी। यह समर्पण का चरम है।
